How to Maintain a Fade Between Haircuts
You just walked out of AOE looking clean. The fade is sharp, the line is crisp, and everything is in order. The question is — how long does it stay that way?
The truth is, a fade will grow out. But how fast it looks rough depends entirely on how you take care of it between visits. Here’s what actually works.
Get on a Regular Schedule
The biggest mistake people make is waiting too long between cuts. A fade at its peak lasts about one to two weeks before the contrast starts to soften. If you want to consistently look clean, a two-week rotation is the move for most clients.
At AOE, walk-ins are always welcome — so there’s no excuse to let it go too long.
Wash and Moisturize Your Scalp
A dry scalp makes hair look dull and can cause flaking along the fade line. Wash your hair regularly with a quality shampoo and keep your scalp moisturized. Healthy skin at the fade line makes the graduation look cleaner longer.
Use a Light Hair Product on Top
If you’re rocking length on top, the right product keeps it in place and looking intentional. Avoid heavy waxes that make the hair look greasy — opt for a light pomade or cream that holds without weighing the hair down.
Edge Yourself Between Visits (Optional)
If you’re comfortable with a trimmer, cleaning up your hairline and neckline between cuts can add another week to your look. Focus on the neckline and around the ears — those are the areas that grow out fastest and throw off the sharpness of a fade.

Come Back Before It Gets Bad
The best maintenance tip is simple: don’t wait until the fade is gone. Come in before it reaches the point of no return and your barber can bring it right back with minimal work.
